During the spring of 2023, King-Chavez Preparatory Academy and Spanish Teacher Valeria Hernadez-Blake were honored at the 22nd Annual Leadership in Biliteracy Symposium! Hosted by the San Diego County Office of Education, the Leadership in Biliteracy Symposium provides an opportunity to spotlight educational leaders who are making a difference for students through demonstrated excellence in promoting biliteracy.
At the event, King-Chavez Preparatory Academy was awarded as one of the first middle schools in San Diego County to establish a Biliteracy Pathways Recognition program in the 2021-2022 school year. Valeria Hernandez-Blake, a middle school Spanish teacher at Preparatory, was also recognized for her commitment to biliteracy in education. In addition to helping establish the Biliteracy Pathways Recognition program, she continues to facilitate vertical alignment between King-Chavez schools and is committed to ensuring that all students are on the Pathway to Biliteracy.
We are incredibly proud of the commitment to biliteracy demonstrated by the King-Chavez community and honored to be named an educational leader in San Diego County!
