About Us

Welcome to King-Chavez Preparatory Academy, and home of the Pumas, where we proudly serve 6th through 8th grade students! At Prep, everything we do begins with love. Our approach to academics, arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities puts student support and high expectations at the forefront of all we do. Our teachers and support staff personally invest in every student at our Middle School campus and we maintain small class sizes to ensure that no student is overlooked. Our rigorous academic program is built upon high standards, relevance, and 21st century skills so that our students learn to be strong leaders like our namesake!

There are so many things to look forward to as middle school students, including:

- A robust academic program that includes Designated English Language Development (ELD), regular and advanced courses, service learning projects, presentations of learning, and high academic standards
- Pathways to achieve the California State Seal of Biliteracy, a distinguished recognition that appeals to colleges and employers
- Arts, Media, and Entertainment (AME) courses
- A comprehensive athletic program that includes physical education (PE) during the regular school day and free after school competitive sports such as Coed Flag Football, Girls Volleyball, Boys and Girls Basketball, and Boys and Girls Soccer
- Free overnight science camp that focuses on team-building, science courses, and connection with nature
- Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Interventions
- Free after-school clubs, such as Drumline, Cheer, Arts & Crafts, Science Olympiad, Bicycle Club, Music Club, ASB, and more
- Embedded mental health and wellness practices, as well as support from trained mental health practitioners and counselors

Our Dual Language Approach

Speaking multiple languages has been proven to enhance memory, concentration, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and multitasking skills. It helps build cross-cultural understanding, self-esteem, and positive attitudes toward global languages and cultures – and it broadens our students’ understanding of the global society we live in today. Those are just a few of the many great reasons why King-Chavez Neighborhood of Schools uses a dual language approach.

At Preparatory Academy, we build upon the Dual Language Program that King-Chavez elementary school students participate in and prepare them for language standards in high school. We empower students with a comprehensive foreign language program and multiple pathways to achieve the CA State Seal of Biliteracy. The CA State Seal of Biliteracy recognizes high school graduates who have achieved proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing at least one more language in addition to English. This distinguished gold seal appears on a diploma or transcript and is recognized as a statement of accomplishment by college admissions and employers.
